WYONG REMEMBERS
The east wall of the Wyong Cenotaph, erected in 1923 from public subscriptions and donations, records the names of 33 local men who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War 1. This memorial was originally built near Wyong Railway Station, and is now located in the grounds of the old Wyong Public School and is accessible from Alison Rd.
Club Wyong, formerly Wyong RSL Club, has displays of war memorabilia from all conflicts and is home to the Honour Boards listing the names of all Wyong men who served in all wars.
On 12 August 1916 the residents of Wyong gathered to rename Hill St Wyong in honour of those who died at Gallipoli. They named the street Anzac Avenue and planted it with brush box trees and wattles. With the passage of time these trees have sadly disappeared.
