Cemeteries in the Wyong Area
There are five Cemeteries in the Wyong area, four are controlled by Wyong Shire Council, the fifth, Palmdale Cemetery is privately run.
Palmdale Lawn Cemetery
Palmdale Lawn Cemetery & Memorial Park offers a variety of services, including cremation. Set in peaceful, rural surroundings, Palmdale combines an extensive, manicured lawn cemetery with one of the Coast's most magnificent collection of award winning gardens.
Noraville Cemetery
Noraville Cemetery is situated at the corner of Wilfred Barrett Drive and Oleander Street Noraville and opened for burials in 1869. The cemetery is still open for burials today.
The cemetery is a general cemetery divided into a number of sections which include the Lawn Cemetery, old style Gravesites, and the Memorial Section. Sections include Anglican with an old section included but also containing rows of lawn cemetery.
The Jewish Section is also lawn with two concrete beams. The Roman Catholic, Methodist and Presbyterian Sections consist of old style gravesites. There is also a small General Section, a Salvation Army Section, a Memorial Garden and a niche Memorial Wall for funerary ashes.
Entry to the cemetery is via the sandstone gates in Oleander Street. The Norah Head Lighthouse, which is a short distance away and can be seen from the cemetery, is a well-known landmark and picnic area.
Jilliby Cemetery
Jilliby Cemetery is situated at the corner of Hue Hue Road and Jilliby Road Jilliby and opened for burials circa 1893. The cemetery is still opened for burials today. The cemetery is a general cemetery, divided into an Old General Section, now known as Non Denominational, a Presbyterian Section, Methodist and Muslim Sections (joined together), Roman Catholic and Church of England Sections (joined together) and a General Lawn Section (where a concrete beam has been constructed), forming five distinct burial areas. This cemetery was included in the Cemeteries of the Wyong Shire produced by Wyong Family History Group Incorporated in 1992 and updated in 1996.
Yarramalong and St Barnabas Cemetery
Yarramalong Cemetery is situated on a hillside in Yarramalong Road Yarramalong - it has no tree cover, but is well covered in native grasses, which is encouraged to prevent erosion. Burials are restricted to family associations and only descendants of those interred. Yarramalong was first settle permanently by the families of William Stinson and Ezekial Waters, who came from Maitland in 1856. This is known as Top Yarramalong Cemetery.
Further along and through the Village of Yarramalong is St Barnabas Cemetery, nestled beyond the little St Barnabas Church. This is known as Lower Yarramalong Cemetery.
Ronkana Cemetery
Ronkana Cemetery is a small cemetery, situated among the trees in Old Chittaway Road, just off Enterprise Drive at Fountaindale near Ourimbah. The first recorded burials in this cemetery were in 1925 and the cemetery is still open for burials today.
Wyong Family History Group Inc. has compiled publications on all these cemeteries, and has a photographic record of all gravesites up to 2010.
